Arrrgh! Only ONE page

I have never had the knack (or the patience) to do an entire campaign world. I think of myself more as an idea catalyst than a progenitor. I prefer to tinker and improve.

I have the deepest respect for DMs like SHARK, nemm, Old One, RangerWickett, et al (not intentionally leaving anyone out, mind you!).

I am pulling hard for someone, anyone from ENworld to win this, a victory for this great community of EN folks and thus, by extension, myself.

If only on the shoulders of better men...

This is off-topic, but I'm kind of new to this side of the boards. I've had my own Story Hour thread going for about two weeks now and I've since become active in posting on other people's threads. Having been a lurker over in the Story Hour forum for about a year, I can say with some authority that guys like Nemmerle and Piratecat have really cool campaign settings worthy of publication. But ever since I ventured over to the "General" forum to learn more about the WotC contest, I've been hearing an awful lot of hype about Shark's campaign world. Does Shark have a Story Hour? Where can I read about his campaign world and game?

I'll go Wulf one further and say that I'm betting someone from EN World will win. Maybe not one of the big names, but I think it will be one of us.

Hopefully me. ;)

I'd go so far as to say that I bet Anthony is hoping one of us will win.

I have always been impressed by the gracious way that they treat ENworld (it is a pretty important resource...)

The trick is to leave them wanting more... :D

That didn't help much I guess.

Oh well. Good luck.

Good suggestion..... "I've much conflict to share with you... give me the check.... I might show it to you." I can't think of a way to leave them wanting more than this.

They didnt need to dangle $120,000 to get the average fan to submit. My guess is that the big payday was meant to lure the non-WotC professionals into submitting (Monte, Ryan, Sean etc). Plus the terms just smell of luring a professional--the pitch is that if you win you get a huge payday and all you have to do is a 100 page setting bible. Then turn it over to WotC with you getting to cherry pick a project here or there possibly.

I would actually be surprised if an unpublished author got the nod, particularly if a high number of insiders actually submit (remember, internal WotC staff is submitting too). Not to say the average ENWorlder doesnt have great ideas. We all have great ideas. But an insider (Monte, et al) would have such a better ability to really nail the submissions.

This should be interesting.

While AV is very gracious, I dont think he necessarily "wants" an ENWorlder to win just because they are an ENWorlder. That is silly. Like any publisher looking to undertake a major project, he wants a good idea coupled with a person who is capable and responsible enough to bust out a great 100 page setting bible--wherever they may choose to get d20 news and post comments.

AFAIK, SHARK (alll in capital letters) hasn't written any story hour. He regularly shows us glimpses of his wonderful campaing world in the general forums, a bit in each post, and he begins wonderful threads about different aspects of a cmpaign, for example, technologically advanced societies in a fantasy world, or great empires and their army recrutment systems.

For one, I would really love see all SHARK's wonderful posts in a book, or at least a e-sine... SHARK's Monthly...

My thoughts exactly, you cuddly demon lord.
