Arrrrggghhh!!! My comp's infected by a trojan!!

Relique du Madde

Appearantly my thumbdrive has became infected by the auto.exe trojan that has been floating around my school for the last several weeks. To make matters worse, my comp has also become infected and my virus checker (which shall remain nameless) does not detect the virus. This virus reportedly likes messing around with the computer's clock but if my ongoing CS3 problems are related to this virus, then it likes messing around with c++ and adobe products.

Does anyone have any pointers of how to get rid of this virus?

Thanks for the help. It looks like avast got rid of the virus (along with 100 infected files!).
It also appears that my copy of CS3 is fully functional now that the virus is gone !!

There's no such thing as the perfect app for getting rid of 'trojans', but if you get Google Updater, you can get a decent free version of Spyware Doctor via that. Basically, you just choose the programs you want with it, and SD is one optional freebie. Can't see anything wrong with the updater itself, either.

That is much, much better at dealing with such things than most antivirus apps I've encountered. They are - variably - good for detecting and removing viruses, but spyware, trojans and rootkits (you might want to check out Sophos Anti-rootkit for these) tend to pass them by, a lot of the time. IME, anyway.

That said, I'm not familiar with the specific virus (or whatever it is/was) you mentioned. If it's gone, well, good. :)
