Just lurking...:)

Well, it's good to know you're still around! :) Here's the quick and dirty opinions of the TBM offerings this time around by a non-artist... :)

The Blood of Amber - Has a very realistic quality that I like in this particular instance. The muted tones as they draw out of the shadows have a calming effect on me. This is one of my favorites of this group.

Steerpike- I'm not a fan of colage art so much, so I really don't have much to say on this, good or bad. The character central to it seems interesting. I'd like to see more scenic work from this artist with figure(s) on a single background.

Thornlings- Very Hildebrandt-esque, which I like. The personification of the "Thornlings" is not as strong as I would expect in a piece like this but helps to make them feel threatening as an unknown quantity. The Dwarf's sword seems askew for some reason. Not quite there on this one for me.

The Manticore- The background seems layered but the Manticore is very vicious. The magic sphere is well done. It has a bit of a disjointed feeling that leaves me cold to it.

the unspeakable- Oddly cropped and I'm not sure I like the coloring, though the tones used seem appropriate, if not striking. I'm not sure about this one but it might just be this particular piece and not the artist.

Overgrown Plant- The expression on the face is reminiscent of Anime characters, though this feels like a Westernization of that style. I wish the artist hadn't dropped that smiley as it detracts from the focus on action. Mark me down as a "No thanks."

Safety- Good use of contrasting colors and I think the unseen antagonist is a good choice for this piece. Not bad but I'm ambivalent overall on this one and don't know why.

Flesh Guildsfolk- Nice shading and depth to this B&W work. The Guildsfolk have a comic edge to them that works well here though I'd prefer something darker in their task. I'd still add this to my favorites of these pieces.

(Detail of) Might and Magic- It's an oil work that looks like a 3-D computerized image to me. I'd have to see the whole piece to be sure but I'd say "not for me" from this detail.

Legend- This one left me wanting more of a full view of the central figure but I think that is both the intention and a good device. The rest of the field is well used with a realistic and contrastingly tranquil background. It is one of, if not my personal, favorite of these works in this thread.

Sword Dance- The out of focus style muddies the impression of this piece for me. Don't care for this one much at all.

Berserker- Solid, dark action oriented work with a compelling perspective. Add this to my favorites of this lot.

Death Knight- There are a number of scaling problems with the figure in this piece but the color use is good. Overall, I don't care much for this one.

Thanks for the offerings, TBM! :)

Glad to see you again :)

Blood of Amber: I like that very much. A realistic figure, and a sad athmosphere.

Steerpike: disturbing image; I woulnd't use it like I use most images (for my NPCs ;) ) but I somehow like it.

Thornlings: Compared to the scene depicted, the picture lacks motion. It's nice, but somehow it doesn't look like the hectic fight that is probably shown.

The manticore: Yay! That was a great picture! It had a style reminiscent of paintings on a wall or ceiling (mesa don't know Engelish term)

The unspeakable: Nice, but I didn't like the monochrome thing.

Overgrown plant: Compare this to thornlings. This pic is very good, and conveys a sense of chaos and hectic.

Safety: A woman with knives at her arms, carrying away a baby. Somehow, the figures weren't too detailed, which I didn't like. It seems like a rather pointless picture.

Flesh Guildsfolk: Well, the style is quite nice, but the diffuse forms of the bodies didn't do it for me.

Might and Magic: That one is very nice again, showing shadows and having a realistic human figure.

Legend: Not bad, really. But 3d modeling still has a long way to go.

Sword dance: That one was nice, too. The swirling colors really worked in this picture.

Death Knight: Good one, but somehow lacking. Can't really pinpoint it. See below!

Berserker: Now I know: The dark eyes. I can't really see the face, and somehow I feel the artist stole around having to detail the face.

My fave: Blood of Amber
