Regardless of which side of the 4e fence you sit on, I think just about everyone can agree on the following:

What in the hell was Bruce Cordell thinking when he said "One, the art is going to be sick. As in, really good."?

Now, I like Bruce's stuff for the most part so this is in no way directed towards game content.

1) If you work as a professional game developer, you really don't have to use slang like this to demonstrate how hip you are. I watch video reviews of video games at Gamespot all the time and I never hear them "trying to be cool". Usually, they're trying to sound as professional as possible.

2) If you must immediately follow up the slang with a definition because you don't think your audience will understand it, they're not an audience that uses it. You also underscore your "uncoolness" b/c the cool kids expect the uncool to figure out the lingo - they don't explain it to them.

Now I'll leave it to the ongoing 4-War to opine as to what, if anything, can be construed by this failed attempt at coolness.

My first thought was, "WTF?" The second was, "Sad, dude. So sad."

Stick to the game, man. Stick to the game.

Agreed. I 'get' the term, but it is a poor choice of word IMHO. 'Sick' as a positive decriptor should be reserved for horror / splatter publications.

For a GWAR RPG beautifully illo'ed by SCAR, "sick" fits.

Or, perhaps, he expects that he has a diverse audience some of who will understand, some who won't, and some who won't be sure how he intended it.

Sorry, it comes across to me as someone who is writing in an informal fashion. He writes as he probably talks. I doubt it's part of his regular vocabulary, but it like creeps in occasionally.

Much ado about nothing, as usual. Chill out, people! What's the point on picking on a word Bruce said in his blog?

Gosh! Go play D&D and stop whining, for whomever's sake!

What's more, there's a sentence fragment in there! Where are the editors? He's a professional game designer for goodness sake! Can't we get some decent editing? If this is the state of grammar we see now, how can we hope that 4e's rulebooks won't be riddled with comma splices everywhere? Will somebody think of the children?

No way man. Explaining what you just said just proves how trill you really are. And by "trill", I mean really sick. And by "sick" I mean really fresh. Kids still say "fresh" right? Yep, the art in 4E is going to be "stupid fresh" kids. Go buy 4E.
