Same. This image will always be how I envision black dragons. I remember first seeing his work and spending a lot of time just admiring how he did gemstones lol.I can’t overstate how much of an influence his art (along with Elmore, Easley, and Parkinson) had on my life. I spent hours absorbing every single piece I came across, whether in a book, a Dragon magazine, or a calendar.
You got the regular version or the XXL one? The latter is $200 on their site ($170 on Amazon), given that the Caldwell book is somewhat smaller (dimension wise, no idea about page count), its $140 do not seem to be that far offWow. I want this, but nearly 200$ CAD, plus shipping, makes it a hard sell. I just got the epic huge Taschen Frank Frazetta book for less, and it's the largest book I've ever owned. So not sure about this. If it was 100$ cheaper, I'd do it.
Larry Elmore is the same way. I've met him a few times, and the last time we were chatting about various stuff (including motorcycles lol), and he invited me to his home if I were to be Kentucky. Not that I ever plan on going to Kentucky lol. That's excellent! Caldwell's art has long been a staple of classic D&D, and I've long enjoyed his work.
He's also a legitimately good guy; I bought a print from him a few years ago, and left a review on his website (which is unfortunately no longer there; I think the site was recently redone). He emailed me about it, and we had a very pleasant back-and-forth about his work. He felt very genuine and happy to talk to a fan of his.
I think you mean David?Donald Sutherland
