Article on Wired.com poking fun at gamers

This is the same Lore who used to write regularly for the Brunching Shuttlecocks when it was still extant, so I'm sure it's done with love.

I suggest doing a search for Lore's "Kitchen Floor" cartoon. I'd link to it, but the language is a bit salty.

Suffice to say: Depleted uranium beholder.

This article was great! Not only did it provide a much-needed dose of humor, it's also highly relevant for illustrating how those outside our hobby might view gamers.

For years now, I've been saying that it's largely the gaming community itself that's keeping new players from getting in. Yes, there are other factors too, I don't think that it's all the fault of one particular element.

What I'm saying is... Would you consider taking up a new hobby if you saw adults sniping at each other online about the "correct" way to pretend to be an elf? Or play a game with people who continue to spend cash on a product that they complain incessantly about? Would you be interested in a hobby where it seems that many groups have their very own Captain Halitosis who reeks like exotic cheese? Of course not all gamers fit the stereotypes, but enough do that the stereotypes stick.

This is certainly a relevant and fresh way for gamers to gain a bit of perspective.

I've always wondered what Lore was up to, ever since Brunching Shuttlecocks went away. I used to follow his Lore Brand Comics site as well, but he stopped updating it and I forgot about it.

Good to see he still hasn't lost his comic timing. The part about historically-accurate cooking techniques of the 19th century made me laugh at my own folly.

Awesome.

I laughed when I read that this morning, even as I laughed at myself for some of it.
Infinite oregano indeed. I think we've *all* played with that guy.
Brilliant.

s I have pointed out MANY TIMES, several of these recipes contain raisins, and I, like most people, am ALLERGIC to raisins! And before you tell me to substitute dried cranberries, I will reiterate that I am discussing the recipes AS WRITTEN. I do not appreciate your ATTACKING ME with helpful suggestions!
sheer class. standard inclusion rhetoric :)

I shall have to look up more of Lore's works

The bit about infinite Oregano was really funny. I couldn't help but think of bags of puppies, or caged kobolds being carried around to activate powers.

However, I think most people will recognize somebody else's posts in there, even with any exaggeration (and from what I've seen recently, there's actually very little exaggerating going on there).
Indeed. The author could have easily perused the 4E forums here for ideas. And when I say "ideas", I mean "posts that he can take and use almost as-is, with only a few words changed."

Like that "allergic to raisins" example. I've seen that exact post many times.
