Artificer or Tinker

Gellion

First Post
Ive had an idea for a sort of tech based class in my head, what i want to know is what name do you think sounds better Artificer or Tinker.

And no this class wont be the favored class for gnomes, just thought i would clear that up before all the gnomes start beating at my keecaps with their little hammers.

This is for a homebrew world obviously.

What sort of tech-based class, exactly? What do artificers/tinkers do in your campaign?

Without a bit more information, I don't know which I prefer. If nothing else, I guess I'd go with artificer just to avoid the inevitable tinker gnome references (and assumptions about the class).

Hmmm could anybody possibly help me with this class. Im trying to think of things they can make and am not doing too well ive just been writing ideas down on a notecard right now, here they are.

Firearms
Devices that improve speed
Devices that allow you to fly
Alchemical devices
Airships
Clockwork Golems
Steam powered golems

Also due to my homebrew setting, is it possible to make any of these without using magic.

Thats all i have right now anybody else have any ides?

The best way i can describe the technology in the world, it is like it is in Final Fantasy Six, thats the best reference i can think of.

Depends on the flavor you're going for. If it's a more serious tone, go with Artificer. If it's a more light-hearted tone, go with Tinker.

A few ideas for other things to make:
-armor
-explosives
-vehicles (steam powered)

yah, thats what i am probably going to name it, sounds better, and it does fit more with what they can do.

I agree. "Tinker" is definitely more whimsical. (Which can be good or bad depending on your perspective).

And like haiiro said "Tinker" conjures up an image of a gnome working on some device that is going to blow up in his face.
