[Asgard 8] Art Thread

I sent this out as an email to the artists involved (except SAUG, whose email I don't have).

The deadline is Thursday, December 12, 2002. If you can upload your image online and just send me a link, that'd be best, since my email account is rather small (Hotmail has a maximum of 2MB). If that's not an option, send me a zip file.

Please send just a jpeg, but preferably at 300dpi. We don't need incredible resolution, but the higher the better. If you're uploading the file, make it as big as you want, but if you're emailing it to me, try to keep it under 400kb in the zip.

* Littlejohn (dhendee@yahoo.com) is doing the cover.

* Dr. Midnight (ulcer13@aol.com) has done the Herald of Echoed Souls.

* Kip the Bold (colorzeroone@aol.com), on the boards you volunteered to do the unholy days and adapting prestige classes. Please reply with which specific one(s) you'd like to do, since I think you're the only person to volunteer for those.

* SAUG, whose email I don't have, is doing Optimized Power Attack and Shieldmage.

*S/Lash (eslashnz@yahoo.co.nz) has volunteered to do some critters for the extraordinary cavalry article.

* Crater (joeminns@hotmail.com), you volunteered to help out, but didn't say what you'd be interested in. I'll include the list of art at the end of the email.

Also, if any of the rest of you want to do some extra illustrations . . . well, hey, I won't stop you. Last issue we ended up with about 10 people volunteering 20 or so images total, so this issue will probably be much more art-light. I understand you're all busy, so if you decide to do more, then we'll all be doubly happy.

**Unholy Days:** Fitting with our vague holiday-theme, this article presents 5 sample holidays that are anything but merry and happy.

During the orcish Blood Moon, where orcish warbands gather around a volcano, their priests deciding who will lead them in their holiday of bloody rampage.

During the winter solstice festival of Everdark, followers of a cult of undeath sacrifice those who will not be missed by society, turning them into blessed zombies.

The Rite of the Elder Stone is a celebration of the mind flayers, where power psions gather to try to ressurect their alien deity from its primordial stone remains.

Sheathnight is a masquerade-like gathering of prominent assassins, who all agree to relax for one night with no fear, since all vow to kill any who take violent action against a fellow assassin that night.

Finally, the Tithe of Souls is a sorrowful holiday. The members of the Traveling Folk made a pact with a dark entity that now claims one-sixth of the souls of their people. During the festival, the Traveling Folk are forced to sacrifice one-sixth of their number before a huge bonfire, and as the victims die, their souls are wrenched from their bodies.

Blood Moon
A savage-looking orc shaman, dressed in leathers and
furs. He has his arms raised above his head,
brandishing a spear, and is howling at a full moon in
the sky above him. The moon should be drawn to
resemble a gigantic eye (dark red, if the picture is
in colour).

Everdark
A black-robed priest in an iron face mask stands atop
a small dais, a blood-stained knife in one hand. He
is flanked by two zombies. These zombies, however,
should only be obvious as such by their slouched
postures and glazed expressions: the bodies themselves
are fresh (not decayed at all). Each zombie has only
recently been killed as a sacricie, so a bloodstain on
their shirts could optionally be included.

Rite of the Elder Stone
A glowing, red-purple gem sits in an iron cage.
Several illithid kneel around it, psionic energy
leeching out of them and into the jewel. The
illithids all wear identical ceremonial robes, red
with gold trim.

Sheathnight
A masked figure in leather armour - go for that
archetyical 'assassin; look - stands half in shadow,
and is about to enter a darkened doorway. The figure
is looking back the way they came. At their hip is a
shortsword, elaborately peace-bonded.

Tithe of Souls
A huge bonfire burns. Around it are many figures,
dressed in a gypsy style. Several are crumpled to the
ground already, and another stands with their back
arched, screaming as their spirit is torn out of them.

**Adapting Prestige Classes:** This article is advice for fitting published prestige classes into your own game. Since we didn't want to step on the toes of other publishers, all the prestige classes used in examples are either from the core rules, or from previous issues of Asgard. For an illustration, we'd like one or two pairs of characters, showing the same prestige class with different looks. For example, show an Inuit-like hunter sneaking through snow with an antler dagger (an assassin), and contrast him with a more traditional Islamic hashshasin assassin, or maybe two different versions of the Ley-Line Magus from Asgard 3, one a celtic druid type, the other a more high-fantasy-looking sorcerer akin to planeswalkers from Magic: the Gathering.

**Herald of the Echoed Souls:** Already covered.

**Optimized Power Attack:** Already covered.

**Father Winter:** From the same man who brings you the Deity-a-Week thread, Father Winter is a minor god of gift-giving and kindness for the winter holidays. Okay, he's Santa, but with a fantasy-world feel. His holy symbol is a decorated evergreen tree, and he either looks like Santa, or like a spirit of the winter forest, a tall, pale, and skinny, with a long beard.

**Shieldmage:** Already being covered.

**A Southern Christmas:** A purely light-hearted article (except for its stats for kangaroos, which take the place of reindeer in some Christmas stories Down Under), feel free to fiddle with mixtures of Australian and Christmasy images. The article includes the "Red-nosed" Template.

**Wintry Monsters:** Already being covered.

**Extraordinary Cavalry:** This article provides guidelines for having unusual types of mounts, particularly griffons, rhinoceroses, elk, zebras, spider eaters, moose, and bears. If you like drawing beasts, go for it.

Hello!
I'll do a pic of Blood Moon, Everdark and a pic of a multi-cultural assasin for the adapting prestige class article. I should be able to get these done by Thursday. If I find some extra time I'll take a shot at Sheathnight or Tithe of souls, or maybe another adapted PrC...

Oh, crap... Kip... did you start the Bloodmoon yet? I just took it on, having stupidly failed to notice that you claimed it. If you did it already, no biggie. Sorry, I can't read and thus am a jerk.

Nope I haven't started it yet (but I had a cool sketch in my head :)), go ahead and finish it if you want to. I'll do the Tithe of Souls instead then. That should have all of the holidays covered, I think.
