Aspect of the Cunning Fox - Am I missing something?

domino

First Post
I'm in a game that just started up, and I'm playing a Hunter from the Essentials, Heroes of the Whatever Something, the ranger variant.

And one of the stances I took is the Aspect of the Cunning Fox. And part of it says,

*You take only half damage from attacks made against you during your turn.

Am I reading that correctly that when I have it on, it's pretty much half damage across the board? Unless "During your turn" is less than from my initiative to next again, in which case it would be only on my actual initiative number? Which would make it truly worthless.

Or is it not actually as over powered as I think?

During your turn means only while you are taking your normal actions on your initiative count.

Thus, it is useful at diving through obstacles, triggering traps or when provoking opportunity attacks - but it doesn't help you the rest of the round.

I wouldn't call it worthless, but it is certainly not quite as strong as you originally consider it to be.

Unless your DM is taking it easy on you, there are plenty of situations where this Aspect will come in handy. Getting away from melee enemies and eating opportunity attacks for doing so is the most basic example.

it protects you from:
1) Oppurtunity attacks
2)traps
3)immediate actions (some dragons tail swipe, etc)
3b) readied actions against you
4) swarms and beholders "at the start of your turn" attacks
5) hitting yourself with your own attacks :-P

For a hunter, you shouldn't be having trouble with alot of these, but its really a play style thing.

Also, the other part of Aspect of the Cunning Fox can be pretty nice combo'd with Rapid Shot. As far as I can tell, RAW is that you get to shift after each attack, which can be a whole lot of free movement.

I was afraid I'd been mistaken all along.

And yeah, it'd have been nice to effectively double my hit points on the rare occasions I use it.

Hmmmm. My reading of that would be that rapid shot still only counts as one attack. But looking at the wording, I think you might be right.
