Just wanted to let everyone know about our Kickstarter for Aspects of Fantasy, a fantasy roleplaying game that combines the D20 rules system with the Fate rules system.
Aspects of Fantasy is derived from our experiences with both D20 and Fate. The Fate system, with its concepts of Aspects, Fate Points and Areas, provides methods that encourage character development while also streamlining rule resolutions. Aspects are a great way to take care of a number of issues with D20: they replace the overabundance of feats that characters have (a problem often referred to as 'feat glut’), make character flaws matter, and allow a player to use his character’s concept to really make a difference in the game. Aspects also provide a way to generate Fate Points which are used to power the Aspects of Fantasy rules engine. We also expand upon these ideas, adding Aspects for adventuring parties and utilizing Fate Points to power certain traits and abilities.
Aspects of Fantasy is also based on the D20 ruleset (though there are many changes). Various incarnations of the D20 system have been around now for over a decade. The concepts underlying D20 are widely understood and have been used by literally millions of roleplayers. Because the D20 rules system has been properly vetted and is so well known it provides the perfect rules framework for Aspects of Fantasy. Aspects of Fantasy is smoothly integrated with the D20 SRD allowing you to easily convert your D20 adventures, as well as integrate much of your D20 source material and monsters.
Aspects of Fantasy is not just a concept looking for funding. The beta-version of the game is complete and will be immediately delivered at the end of the Kickstarter. We are doing the Kickstarter so that we can hire a professional editor and purchase additional art for the final version of the game.
