D&D 3E/3.5 Assassin in 3.5: How did I miss this?

It makes NO sense to me thematically that the assassin would have spells, and besides, like others have said, to me "assassin" is more of a profession than a class. IMC, assassins can be of any class as long as the NPC focuses on stealth and killing people. Personally, I like rogue/shadowdancers or monk/rogues.

Arbitrary spell casting ability makes up for poor concept execution in a LOT of PRCs. I re-wrote the assasin (and ranger and bard) for that matter with out spells.

I think the worst is the dungeon delver from Song & Silence/Complete Adventurer. Why in the world would this lame-arse PrC have spell-like abilities? It makes no sense whatsoever. They really blew an opportunity to craft a cool skill-based class that can disarm traps and skulk through dungeons effectively.

Oh, wait, that would be the rogue. :]
