Assassin Question

Has anyone created an assassin using Mongoose Power Classes Assassin? If so what is a good choice of race and possibly other classes that suppliment the assassins abilities, I'm working him for a 12th level character. My idea was to use wizard / illusionist for 5 levels and then 7 levels of assassin. Any better ideas would be much appriciated.

Well, I've used it for an NPC, and I quite liked it. If asked for a recomendation, I'd say use a halfling - and give it the feat "improved sneak attack"

for an assasin/illusionist I would say: Human (or the race thats around most) be as invisible as you can untill you strike.

I do not know this calss, so I can comment this.

Illusionist 5 means 3rd level spells only, so you get only invisibility and not improved invisibility.
All good skills (move silently, hide, etc.) for an assassin are not class skills, so you have to pay double skill point costs if you choose wizards as class and your maximum rank is also lower than that of a rogue, etc.

Some 12th level NPCs will have access to spells like see the invisibility, invisibility purge or true seeing.
So high ranks in Hide, move silently can be better then invisibility.
As a rogue you can buy and use a potion/scroll (with UMD) of invisibility.

If I would build an assassin I would take the rogue class and maximize the ranks in assassin relvant skills like move silently, hide, etc. Perhaps I would dual-class as fighter to get a better BaB and weapon spec. I would take one Level PrC Shadowdancer (hide in plain sight) and then take the Assassin PrC in DMG.
