D&D 5E (2024) Asterion feats can be pretty strong

ECMO3

Legend
Most of the Asterion don't seem very powerful at 1st glance but after seeing Putrify and Love Bites in play I realize that bypassing saves is a huge deal on enemies with legendary resistance, even if the effect is not awesome or persistent.

We were fighting an Ancient Copper Dragon and the Fighter used action surge-attack-putrify to poison the dragon then she used a scroll to cast Summon Undead which attacked and paralyzed the Dragon without a save taking away all its Legendary actions and its flight and letting other players crit on it.

Love bites is not as powerful but makes enemies stop attacking someone in melee and take an AOO if they move, again with no save.

Getting a recharge after a short rest and not requiring either a save or an action to use make these pretty effective against bosses.

I said a while ago paralysis is really good. Figuring out how to consistently do it is key.

Asterion feats are fine. They got power crept out almost straight away by Heroes of Faerun and FotA.

At 4th lvl I put in a +1 dagger that deals +1d4 necrotic hmmnnn. Player doesn't read things like asterions book of hunger.

I don't find the HOF feats particularly OP, although I have not seen them all in play so maybe I am missing something.

I think Street Justice, Zhentarim Tactics and Spellfire Adept can be very good on a specific type of build, but not generally great (in the case OF ZT because you need the Origin Feat). Some others can be very powerful, but are also highly situational and are saddled with a weak Origin Feat as a prerequisite.

Dragonscarred is the only HOF feat that looks really powerful most of the time, but it is limited due to the lack of synergy between the Origin Feat (Wisdom based) and the General Feat (Constitution and Dex based).

I feel similar. The Realms' feats greatly expand story through narrow applications rather than being generally powerful
