D&D 5E Athlete Feat and Crawling while Prone

Inter alia, the Athlete feat allows you to climb at your full walking speed as opposed to at half speed.

Would you allow a PC with this feat to move while crawling at full speed as opposed to half speed on the justification that crawling is basically climbing across the floor?

Probably not, being prone is supposed to be a pain in the ass.

No, I would not. But I wouldn't be opposed to it being a house rule.

I don't think it would be a problem. While prone the player will still have disadvantage on attack rolls, creatures in melee ranged would still gain advantage against the player, while ranged attacks against the player remain at disadvantage. Overall, I see no way that gaining some extra movement while prone breaks the game. I don't see any tactical advantage for going prone and crawling around the battlefield unless against ranged snipers, but in that situation going prone is the best option regardless if you have the feat or not. With or without the movement, being prone is still a pain in the bloop.

I know that this isn't exactly crawling, but if anyone would take that awfull feat I would allow it.

Since crawling is not "basically climbing across the floor," no.

What if it was a 30' ladder that fell to the ground? The Athlete could scale that ladder at full speed if arranged vertically, but what if she was moving horizontally across it with her hands and feet after it had fallen?

The angle isn't really relevant. Crawling and Climbing are different things. Hence why a typical baby is good at crawling, but rubbish at climbing.

To address the main point, the Athlete feat already gives prone characters a bonus (easier to stand up than usual). So, I don't think anything more needs to be added.

As an aside, a character with the Mobile feat would be able to move further than usual while crawling --- as their base speed is greater.
