Athletic Entertainment in a Fantasy Setting?

Have we forgotten the original big-time athletic competition, the original Olympic games?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I figured that went without saying.

The sport of kings, horse racing!
Then there is: Pit fighting

Entertainment should be based along the line of the location where the event takes place. Horse racing would be big in the plains, boat racing in a harbor, Lumberjack events (log walking, axe throw, tree climb), miners would have things like spike drive, block breaking, lifting. In a fantasy world that should not be any different.

You would also have your silly events, pie eating, catch the goblin, halfling toss, and cooking stuff.

Another inspiration for athletic events is the commemoration of a significant event in history e.g. the running of the marathon.
