As a result, my Atlantis Campaign is a rich place to play in. In my Atlantis campaign:
  • Atlantis is a nation that is a powerful sea power, but much of its wilderness is untamed. but the cities are much more civilized.
  • And the technology is higher than the typical D&D campaign. But what it is truly about is the transporation of modern characters from our day to the world of Plato's Atlantis.
  • Is faithful to Plato's philosophical fantasy. Uses the text of the Timaeus and the Critias as canon material!
  • Combines high technology, psionics, classic sword and sorcery, and the Ancient ante-divulian world with the World of the Greeks and Egyptians. This is fantasy that goes beyond the Tolkien and Celtic models.
  • Has other areas of adventure besides Atlantis. Venture into North America and interact with the Mayan Empire and the Land of Zion. Go to Tartessos in Spain or explore Greece, a land of Terrorists and Pirates! Or simply sail around Africa and visit the cyberpunk City of Nod.
  • Play as a D20 Modern Character or as an Atlantean! Be a character transported to Atlantis from our world, or play a native to Atlantis!

Come to Atlantis . . . and explore Plato's imagined Empire of Atlas!

Two options are available. Face-to-Face gaming or Chat gaming on the Wizards.com D&D gaming Chatrooms. If you live in Salt Lake City, and want to play, then Face-to-Face gaming may be more appropriate. If you want to play by on-line Chat, then that is appropriate also.

Either way, respond to this thread, and I'll send you the details: a players' handout giving you all the information you need to play. The Ancient World of Atlantis is as once beautifully formed and ready to be shared. Share in the experience that is an Atlantis d20 RPG.

Campaign FAQ

Do you have to run it at wizards?

No. But I know of no other place at the moment other than Wizards Chat, or Palladium Chat, as the Palace chat is down. Wizards Chat has two open play rooms, and 4 dedicated play rooms. I can do Face-to-Face too, but I doubt most of you live in Salt Lake City. If you can suggest another chat network, I can move it. :)

Time will be from 5:00 pm PST to 8:00 pm PST. That's 3 hours.

Is this based on the 3.0/3.5 d20 mechanic? How much?

Yes. It is. I am using the 3.5 d20 Mechanic. But I am also allowing those who want to use BESM d20 as well (which is also based on the 3.5 d20 mechanic). I probably have to come up with Cybertech rules on my own, since I can't afford cybernet. :) But everything else uses the 3.5 mechanic.

What kind of classes are going to be available?

All of the Core Classes from the Player's Handbook, plus Psion and Psychic Warrior. As well all the Base Classes from the D20 Modern game.

When would you like to run it?

I'm prepared to start now; but I'd like to create characters this weekend. Actual game play will probably start two weeks from now.

How long would you like us to be able to commit for?

Since I'm using American T.V. series format for this campaign, at least thirteen Episodes, realistically. A campaign based on an American T.V. series can actually run for at least 26 episodes for one season. So we are creating our own Television show in effect. The bonus is that our T.V. show is one that can't be canceled by any T.V. network executive. :)

There are also seven roles to play, all Main Characters (from your perspective. You play your own Main Character). I will be playing the Antagonists (as well as all the other NPCs). These roles include:

The Protagonist, who embodies the quest to fulfilling the series' particular goals. I.e. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Luke Skywalker, and Frodo in The Fellowship of the Ring, or Aragorn in Return of the King.

The Antagonist is the hero’s opposite: this is the person directly in opposition to the Objective goals of the Hero. As DM, this is the best part I normally play. Examples include Rappan Athuk, the Dungeon of Graves; The Evil Empire from Star Wars (embodied by Grand Moff Tarkin, the Death Star, and the Emperor), on some level Gollum, and archetypically Sauron.

The Guardian is the wise person who watches over the protagonist. They represent constancy, help and the straight path. Guardians typically have better experience, so they are of a significantly higher level than the protagonist or anyone else. Besides the Contagonist! Examples include Gandalf, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Giles.

The Contagonist is a term that is from Dramatica and a very useful one in terms of this type of character. The Contagonist represents temptation, hindering and diversion ... the exact opposite of the Guardian. In other words, the the Contagonist can be as evil as you like! Examples include: The One Ring, Darth Vader, Sauroman, and Spike.

The Skeptic is that character who is always certain that things are not going to work out. Examples include Han Solo and Gandalf on some level.

The Sidekick is more than just supportive. A sidekick represents faith and support as well. Aragorn in The Fellowship of the Ring after the Fellowship was forged; the two droids from Star Wars, Samwise, Merry, and Pippin (from LotR), and Xander (from Buffy).

The Logic or Reason Character primarily demonstrates thoughtful reasoning. I.E. Spock from Star Trek is archetypical as well as Princess Leia, the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz also represents Logic and Reason, and Elrond from LotR thinks with Logic and Reason.

The Emotion is that character who values passion and feeling above all. Chewbacca is Archetypical of this character, along with Gollum and Gimli from LotR (Gollum is a complex character). Doctor McCoy's emotion balances Spock's logic ("Doctor McCoy, you must learn to govern your passions, they will be your undoing." vs. "Logic! The man is talking about logic. I'm talking about universal Armageddon!")

So I'm looking for seven players who are willing to play seven player characters.
