Attacked on introduction?

Now see here, I had gotten to say a grand total of two lines to the kid before he took a shot at me. I said I was looking for a questing beast, and then described it (I should have said serpent / leopard / lion / deer combination, but i digress) he attacked me before I ever got a chance to drop character and explain the concept of a "backstory".
that is a different discription than given earlier, but thats ok.
Wow, that's harsh. I guess you don't like roleplayers.
yes, thats the only possible explaination.

What the?

The kid tried for a player kill, and it was ok becasue he was frustrated :\

What kind of rejects do you play with?
*carefully looks to see where she said it was "ok". Sees the statement that the kid was immature. shrugs at TB.*

But if we simply acccept immature behaviour, what reason will anyone have to mature?

Certainly we can grant some leeway for younger gamers, but I wasn't anything like this at that age, and no one else has to be. The earlier they learn proper role-playing, the better they'll be when they're older.

Hmmm... two back to back incidents with two separate groups where eveything that happened to you was everyone elses fault. I think I'm beginning to see a trend here.

I didn't see her say she accepts the behavior. In fact, it looks like she plainly said she'd rather not have this person at her table. That doesn't sound at all like acceptance.

Expectation and acceptance are not the same thing.

Corellation does not imply causation.

Folks, please, try to stay away from the drawing of conclusions about the character of the speaker.

Regardless of what you think Kahuna Burger said, one thing is obvious...

That is a tasty burger!

But I digress... every time I see her name I hear Samuel L. Jackson in my head looking at me with a jerry-curl. Some demons I must let free! ;)

As for the actual conversation, I actually agree with KB and Umbran's comments. Please consider them Quoted for Truth.

Yeah, plot device.

-It has Arcane runes only he can see (that he can't read) written on it.
-If seperated from him, it poofs back into his hands.
-anyone who tries to take it has to make a fortitude save or get shocked (zap!)
-Anyone who tries to damage it has to make a fortitude save or get shocked. (zapity)
Must be his bad report card.

but if he wronged you within the game, it's only fair and with your rights to address that balance within the game,
See I wouldn't see a distinction between being wronged in the game or out.

One reason being that d&d is by default a cooperative game and unless I've been explicitly warned otherwise I'd consider it a 'breech of contract' to go adversarial. A second reason is that the interparty fight wasn't sanctioned by both players and I would want more control over my character's interparty 'development', i.e. I'd want conflict to occur in an interesting but controlled way - no irrational outright party warfare which would swiftly end the IC conflict. Thirdly, and I think this reason is more than strong enough to stand by itself, the game would become not fun. Oh another thought struck me - I think dealing with this situation in character would somewhat legitimize the dysfunctional play.

Btw, I'm not too certain what you mean when you say giving the guy something to think about or ponder. Could you explain that a bit please?

****

OT, I read in the world news that there was a Japanese kid who resorted to arson to try to distract his parents from reading his bad report.
