Attacking multiple targets?

Is it possible to attack different targets in one round (if you have multiple attacks per round)?

Is it also possible for a ranged weapon?

The full-round-attack chapter is not very clear about that, although most people interpret it such that one can attack multiple targets.

In the 2. Edition it was NOT possible to attack multiple targest and there have been long discussions in sage advice about this topic. I think it makes the game more realistic this way.

Is there a definitive rule clarification or recent sage advice?

Absolutely.

"You do not need to specify the targets of your attacks ahead of time. You can see how the earlier attacks turn out before assigning the later ones."

Notice it's 'targets', plural, and you get to assign the target of each attack individually.

If you get more than one attack per round because your base attack bonus is high enough, because you fight with two weapons or a double weapon or for some special reason you must use a full-round action to get your additional attacks. You do not need to specify the targets of your attacks ahead of time. You can see how the earlier attacks turn out before assigning the later ones.

From the SRD, I think there is another section dealing on targets but couldn't find it.
