Silly! There's only TWELVE months in a year, not Twenty-two!

So we've got three units that we're measuring time in. A big one, a medium-sized one, and a little one. Like the Three Bears.

What's a logical order to present them in?

Largest to smallest?

Smallest to largest?

Wait! Let's arrange them middle-small-large! That makes sense!

Silly Hypersmurf! Didn't anyone ever teach you? It isn't the size that's important, but how you use them.

Size order isn't the most efficient arrangement in terms of retrieval of information people normally use. Typically, the most important bits are the month and year, so they are easily accessible at the ends. The specific day, generally being less important, is stuck in the middle.

Thus endeth my term as "Mr. Pedantic".
