AU feat: Speed burst

Is this feat a bit much for a PC of any level? Essentially it allows an extra move action per turn, which can come in very handy. The way I read it, the PC is still limited to their total movement speed but can instead split the movements into two separate actions much in the same way as Spring Attack. The limiting factor is that AoOs are incurred, but simply having a second move action can accomplish a lot for a PC. Anyone labeled the feat 'overpowered' from abuse, or is it just right?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have the AU, and haven't read the feat, so I can't comment on that. But, I have three feats in my house rules that sound similar. They're tweaked variants of similarly named rules in SWRPG and d20 Modern.

Notice that in these feats, the PC has to take a full-round action first . . . .

Heroic Surge [General]
Prerequisite: BAB +3
Benefit: You may take an extra move action on your turn if you've already taken a full-round action. You may use Heroic Surge once per day per three character levels.
Special: You can use Heroic Surge only once in a round.

Improved Heroic Surge [General]
Prerequisites: Heroic Surge, BAB +5
Benefit: You may take an extra attack action on your turn if you've already taken a full-round action. You may use Improved Heroic Surge once per day per five character levels.
Special: If you use this feat, you cannot use it again in the round, nor can you use Heroic Surge in the round.

Greater Heroic Surge [General]
Prerequisites: Improved Heroic Surge, BAB +10
Benefit: You may take a second full-round action on your turn if you've already taken a full-round action. You may use Greater Heroic Surge once per day per ten character levels.
Special: If you use this feat, you cannot use it again in the round, nor can you use Improved Heroic Surge in the round.

Several AU feats emulate spells from the core rules ... because these spells don't exist there.

Give them to PHB characters and they get too strong (who wouldn't want to take Rapid Strike?)

I have a PC in my AU game who has it, and it's not caused a great deal of disruption. He's a Litorian that already has extra speed from his Litorian levels, Fleet of Foot and the Bloodhound prestige class, so he's already moving at something like 60' a round; Speed Burst just makes sure that his prey doesn't get away.... It is a treat to watch him catch up to a mounted warrior at full gallop and drag him out of the saddle :)

That's another thing I am having trouble with as far as the single sentence benefit the feat has for a descriptor - do you get to move your normal movement twice? The description implies it, but it doesn't say specifically, and rules are rules. If it does allow you to move 30'x2 in a round once per two levels, the feat is too crazy. Add in a high tumble skill and the PC can do mobility and spring attack with a single feat. With the move action being versitile, use a move to draw a weapon, and it substitutes for Quickdraw too.

And the feat doesn't really limit the movement to what type of speed either. Swimming? Sure! Flying? Why not! Climbing? You bet! Jump checks? Absolutely!

At 2nd level a PC with this feat could outsprint anyone else in the round, while still having a standard action in between. Wizard moves around the corner, casts magic missle, then moves back around the corner. Mid-level monks could outsprint a cheatah with one feat.

Ok, I'm done ranting now. Anyone else have problems/worries with the feat?

Not really a problem.
What you describe is the same as the old 3.0 Haste spell - with the notable exception that you don´t get extra attacks or extra spells per round from it.
It is basically Spring Attack & Shot on the Run & "Cast on the Run" rolled into one feat with limited uses per day.

Exactly. An 8th level PC could use it to cover a whole slew of feats from 3.5, and at the same time make many of those 'same' feats in AU obsolete, and have it last 4 rounds, more than enough to get through a tough fight if used judiciously. With it, the PC could romp through a fight, climbing, jumping and running to get into or out of melee, depending on the class.

In a way, I can't see why any PC would not choose it, regardless of class. Wizards to step into and out of sight to snipe, run from grappling barbarians, use short range spells more effectively. Fighters & barbarians to dart into melee to drop an opponent then move into position for good AoOs or a full attack next round. Rogues can use it with high tumble to move in for sneak attacks then back out to prevent from being surrounded. Clerics can increase their speed to keep up with those that need healing or tag fleeing foes more easily.

As it stands I would take this feat at 1st level for every character I would create if it is available.

It is only once per day per 2 character levels. So a 20th level character could get an extra move action 10 times in one day.

For example, a 7th level warmain has a base speed of 20 (with armor). He can move 20ft and attack once. Then using Speed Burst to go another 20ft. But he could suffer Attacks of Opportunity if this movement warrants it.

He could also move 5ft, get two attacks (his bab is +7/+2) and then move 20ft. AoO still possible.

He now has 2 more times this day to use Speed Burst. I hope that is enough examples of how Speed Burst works.

I think it adds more fun to the game.

Peace and smiles :)
