AU Warmain unbalanced in non-AU campaign?

Apologies if this has already been discussed...

Is Monte's Warmain class from Arcana Unearthed balanced compared to the Fighter or Barbarian?

Is anyone using it in a "normal" (non-AU) campaign?

Repeat same question for Unfettered...

I am not a rules lawyer/expert. They look OK to me, but I submit to the superior wisdom of my fellow EN Worlders.

Likewise... the only potential balance issues would be AU Spellcasters vs. D&D Spellcasters. And then only because the D&D casters would be more powerful.

The warmain should work fine. They are a more focused version of the fighter. The only issue that I've heard of is some groups don't like the character getting the extra feat at first level. Since I'd charge them the 10% extra XP in my game, it wouldn't be a problem But, if you want to remove that feat, go ahead and drop their XP reqs to standard D&D and it will go fine.

Agreed. Warmain is strong but I don't see it overpowering either fighter or barbarian. The Melee classes from AU aren't that bad in any d20 game.

My only reservation on the warmain is the d12 HD as opposed to the fighter's d10.

If I were to put them in the same campaign I'd most likely change toughness to +1 HP / HD, so a fighter who takes that with one of his extra feats would have the same HP range.

You'll also have to figure which armors and weapons you'll be allowing, since the two systems handle this a little differently...

Personally, I think that even the core fighter would be balanced fine with more hp. After all, a raging barbarian will still have the edge, and as it stands, the second-rank fighters (cleric, druid, ranger) only average 1 hp/level behind the fighter, with far more options to boost their hp totals than the fighter has.

Yeah, I'd say the warmain works fine. In fact, IMC, I allow the warmain, unfettered, and straight fighter as alternative "paths" for the fighter class. (The straight fighter tends to find favor as an archer, and really not so much otherwise.)

I also allow each of these fighter classes together.

I've modified the Warmain's flavor, and a tiny bit of the mechanics, to make it a knight. For example, the oversized weapon thing is only while mounted, and during charges (actual cavalry spears could not be used while on foot, after all).

And of course, I use my alt. fighter, and so should you! ;) :]
