Ok, so Bree and I might be driving to Gencon yet again this year, and we're looking for people to share the drive with us. We'd likely be leaving late Tuesday or early Wednesday, and coming back on Monday.

We're leaving from either Austin or Dallas and will even pick you up in between (means you get the last leg of the drive up ;) ).

Who's with us? :)

Maybe there should be a short-term forum devoted to rides and link-ups for GenCon. Gamers Seeking Gamers is the closest match, but I think this is specialized enough to warrant it's own place.

I, for one, am looking for a ride from Atlanta to Indy. If I can't get one by early August, I'll buy air fare, but I'd rather pay for gas than for jet fuel.

Is Indy closer than Milwaukee? I made the GenCon road trip from Austin five years ago and it was an experience.

It's about equidistant, Indy might be a bit closer if you went up 55 to I-70 from Memphis. Both are about a 15-hour drive. I've done both drives a half-dozen times...I thought our trip was set, but the guy we were going with just dropped out yesterday...grr. So, now we're looking for a new road tripper. I didn't want to drive this year, but it's usually fun, moreso if you get a car full of gamers together.

Maybe we'll do a project on the road. :)

18 hours? I'm curious which route you drive.

Last year my wife and I drove to Indy. We started in Temple, which is an hour north of Austin. It took us 16 hours (over two days). We went to Dallas, then over to Texarkana, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Louisville and then Indy.

I checked the mileage in a road atlas, and the route we took was almost the exact same mileage (it was something like 10 or 12 miles different) as going to Oklahoma City, over to St. Louis and then to Indy. We originally planned to go up one route (via OK City and St. Louis) and back the other (Nashville and Memphis), but then we found out there were no Chevron stations along the OK City route, and that is the only gas card we have. So we went up and back through Nashville.

IIRC, the Memphis-to-St. Louis-to-Indy route is longer than Memphis-to-Nashville-to-Louisville-to-Indy route by 25 to 30 miles, according to the atlas.

Wish I was able to go this year. Hope you have fun.

I just don't think I'd want to drive for 15 hours to Gen Con. I'm flying this year.

Having done it the last two years, I agree, I'm sick of it. :) The drive back is the most brutal, really.

Maybe I should make some pdfs and have an Airfare for Dwarfy sale on RPG Now. :)
