Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong Trip

Hello,

I am in Sydney right now and heading to Melbourne tomorrow for a few days. Though I regret not having time to stop by a single gaming store here in Sydney, I'd love to meet with Aussie gamers anywhere in Melbourne on Dec. 16 or 17 if someone can point me to a good gaming store there! :)

Starting Dec. 18 up until Dec. 22, I'll also be visiting the South Island (Christchurch, Queenstown) in New Zealand and would also be interested in meeting some Kiwi gamers. Can anyone tell me where the gaming stores are there?

Then it's off to Hong Kong from Dec. 22 to Dec. 29 and possibly a couple of days in Seoul, Korea. Please let me know if any Hong Kong or Korean gamers are interested in meeting in these locations, too!

Cheers!

Last time I was in Christchurch was about a year ago.

There's a comic store in Manchester Street (centre of town) called Comics Compulsion that carries RPG material.

Their website is here... hope it helps!

Hey Ed,

I'm incredibly busy this week, so no time to meet up I'm afraid, but Mind Games is by far the best shop in Melbourne for RPGs. EK's website should ahve all the details.

I haven't been to Christchurch for years but Comics Compulsion was the only place I remember with RPGs. Not super good tho.

Where you going in the South Island?

You could come up to RMIT university in melbourne on Wednesday. That's when the games club tends to meet, all through the day and evening.

In case you were wondering as to location, it's in building 12, level 4 where we meet.
Rmit University is located on the corner of Swanston and La Trobe streets.

Thanks! I'll be sure to check it out. In fact, I just e-mailed a New Zealander friend in New York who said he has a pal in Christchurch who's a gamer. So he'll probably know where this place is, too.

One of the better places in Melbourne is Mind Games.

I am outside of Melbourne and so can't meet you there, but good luck!

Hey, I was just there yesterday! After coming out of Myer Department Store, I noticed a shop called "Hobby World" or something like that across the street. So I went in and asked if the store carried any role-playing games. The guy pointed me to "Mind Games" and I checked it out.

"Mind Games" is a great shop! It's very big and I was surprised to see an entire room dedicated to just miniatures. I chatted with the RPG manager, a nice fellow named Matt Butcher, for a while about games, publishing, writing, illustrating, freelancing, and the retail business.

Although the store wasn't carrying my book, as they've stopped ordering from some of the small to medium-size RPG companies, I was happy to see a wide selection of other books.

I'll be in Christchurch then Greymouth, Queenstown, and Dunedin. I actually have a pretty open schedule in New Zealand, so if you have any suggestions, please do tell! :)

Darn! I wished I had checked this site last night. I didn't have much time as I was late to meet a friend for drinks in South Yarra.

I'm going to try to locate this place though! I think I may have walked by it with my dad. It's near Melbourne University right?

Ummm no.
RMIT is closer to the Myers department store.
Basically, if you are standing at the front door of mind-games and looking out onto the street, turn right, and walk a couple of blocks and you should be at the corner of swanston and la trobe.

RMIT should be right across from the corner you are standing on.

Though I could be off by half a block.
