Autofire static Reflex DC...

I believe that Ranger REG does have a point, but it is up to you whether you allow it. It really doesn't bother me either way. But, I have not had a chance to play with this option, or any option, yet.

Are you using the "natural 20 = 30" rule with regards to calculating the DC?

Probably. Its either that or just use the 20 plus your modifiers. What would you recommend?

Why not? I mean if you lower the base DC to 10, you can allow Improved Autofire feat to bring it back up.

When I made that statement, I was considering lowering the DC to 12 (10 wasn't my idea). A +5 bonus is too big if the base is 12, IMO. At 12, I wouldn't allow a +5 bonus, but I would probably allow a +3 bonus. If I lowered the base DC to 10, I would probably allow a +5.

Depends on how lethal you want it to be. Just keep in mind that low-level characters (PCs and NPCs) are essentially dead meats if you go with the "natural 20 = 30" rules. They simply don't have a high enough Ref save bonus, although one can hope for a natural 20 on the saving throw roll. This would definitely put emphasis on diving for cover which can provide Reflex save bonus, and to some extent, concealment.

My bad. I thought DC 10 was your idea.

Personally, I think the autofire ref save should be the attack roll of the person firing. Thus someone with no training with a MG would be easy to dodge (firing at the ground/air) or extremely hard (trained killer) with a max at DC 20.

That means he could miss an entire stationary 10-by-10 area completely.

OTOH, it makes those high-level field scientists dropping those low-level soldiers like flies.

How about, only if they have the proficiency. If they don't, use the natural attack roll as the DC.

That makes people with training lots deadlier.

I like this way of working out the DC.
