AVATAR: How Good Is It and/or Why Should I Be Watching?

*: Why doesn't it have a more "grown up feel?!" you know make it more like Batman the Animated Series or JLU/Justice League good. That kind of animation would draw everyone in, I think.
Wrong target audience. Nick is based around the elementary school (and younger) demographic. Any show they have needs to be based around that audience. This is what killed Invader Zim. That we got a show that adults can also watch is just an added bonus.

It's got more butt kicking female characters than Buffy. (just don't tell the Mattel that, they refuse to make a complete action figure line)

Everytime I'm in the toy aisle at Target or Mal*Wart I'm looking to see if they came out with the Katara figure (for my daughter of course!) ;)

That's another thing I like about the show. They seem to be going out of their way to drive the action figure makers nuts. They keep introducing strong female characters instead of the male ones that the toy companies believe are the only ones that sell. They're gonna have to introduce the female characters sooner or later as there's only so many Aang figures they can make.

Katara and Toph. Azulla and her 2 'friends' Mai and Ty Lee. Suki and the Warrior women. At this point, I expect to see Jet and the Cabbage guy in toy form before any of those characters show up. :\

Hey, the cabbage guy is awesome!

Cabbage Guy and Foaming Mouth guy are indeed awesome. But I'd like them to make figures for the female half of the main cast first. :p Call it a petty want.

The fact they're making an Avatar Roku figure, who is a minor 'character' to begin with, and dont even have plans for Katara (Not in the first and 2nd wave of toys anyways), who is a main character, infuriates me.

It can simply be chalked up to the stupidity of toy company execs. In their mindset, female characters don't sell well in a toy line 'marketed' to pre-teen boys.

And I agree, it is a disservice, especially given that neither Katara nor Toph fall into the stereotypes of female protaganists.

I want a plush Appa and Momo. ;)

Seriously, they should take a page from Japan on this. Japanese toy makers do plushies of all sorts of anime characters, even characters from fairly adult and dark shows. I have a plush Inu-Yasha toy, for example.

Nick really needs to figure out that they've got an adult audience that will buy this stuff for themselves, not just for their kids.
