Avatar - how to add one?

Apologies if this has been asked & answered before or if it's obvious, but how do you add an avatar under your username on the left of the board?

Also, how do you change your identifier from "Member" to something else?

1) Go to usercp (one of the blue buttons near the top)
2) Go to edit options
3) click change avatar at the bottom
4) you can give the location of the avatar on a website, or upload the one you want
5) click submit modifications

As for changing member, you have to become a site supporter.

From what I understand avatars were down on Morrus' list when he was moving the site to the new server. Silly crap like getting it stable kept him busy.

Well they have been turned off for quite some time (even back when I worked on the site we had them turned off) for performance issues.

They just took too much resources from the server/bandwidth in order for the wallet that paid (Russell's) to be worth it.

Sorry for the vagueness. The last couple of times avatars were turned on after being off for a while I didn't notice at firs because I had them turned off in my user cp and so I was wondering if the almighty bovine did as well.
