D&D 4E Average Atributes in 4e ?

Phasics

First Post
Obviously everyone has their preferred method of rolling up stats. but the question remain what will the new norm be ?

Now although the 4d6 drop lowest and the like are the more random ways of rolling up I think for the sake of this thread the best way to do it is using point buy.

With base races getting much better racial bonuses are we assuming point buy will be similar to 3e or lower or even higher.

All I know is that point buy is now the standard/default method of ability score generation – thank god.

I'm also hoping for fixed hp when levelling, I don't like randomness in character creation or development, but that's just me.

While I wouldn't mind if it was the case, the last thing I read about that topic that there will be multiple stat generators presented in the core books, and neither is preferred or default.

Oh, okay, right on, sorry about that.

4E looks like it may allow equal but different generation methods. I suspect it's dependent on the player preference, rather than a 1 size fits all DM decree.

What then is the average attribute?

Good question. I don't know but if I'm allowed to speculate wildly I'd say:

1) Random - 2d6+6, drop lowest, six times, arranged to suit with a minimum total bonus of +5 and at least one 15.
2) Custom (Elite) array - 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, with four scores increased by 2.
3) Default array - 17, 16, 14, 13, 10, 10.

No doubt WoTC would fiddle around with the numbers so that they are comparable, the random method does not vary wildly - and it's extremes are still harmonious to play.

I'm expecting a higher point buy equivalency, probably 35-40 pts.

I'm just hoping the ugly Standard Point Buy from 3.x isn't made the default with the boring characters it creates.

Me, I still like 4d6, drop lowest, roll six times. Or roll 21d6, arrange three dice to each stat to taste, drop lowest three.

One more in agreement, but I'm fine with the random options being presented in addition to fixed ones.
