B5 is, bar none, my favorite TV show of any sort, ever. I consider JMS one of my greatest inspirations when it comes to writing, even though I work with mostly fantasy, not sci-fi, and even though my fiction is written as novels/short stories/gaming material, not scripts.
In fact, a few months ago when Tendonitis forced me to stop writing for three weeks straight, I actually sat down and watched the
entire series again, all the way through. Even knowing what's coming, even though I've seen it several times before, it still holds up. It's still powerful.
I have the entire series on tape, and I still plan to buy every season on DVD the day it comes out. Heck, I'm drooling in anticipation of JMS' commentaries on whichever episodes he ends up deciding to comment on.
I agree that the first season was weaker than 2-4, but I think it was about on par with 5, and it's still better than most other series' out there. IMHO, of course.
I just hope they don't wait too long between releases. I
hate waiting. For instance, I just bought the second season of Buffy, and I'm pissed that they're waiting until winter 2003 to release season three.
