Babylon 5 D20 campaign idea, need input.

I don't think that Garibaldi is the type of guy to grow more comftorable with a group of people who can read other people's minds, and thats not even counting his own bad experiences with them. He may accept another individual TP's right to exist because, hey he's one of the good guys, but he still probably wouldn't trust that person much and I halfway expect that he'd aoid getting to know any more TP's that well exactly so that he woudn't have to do such a thing. Remember, Garibaldi foresaw the TP War as inevitable years before anyone else (except probably Mr Bester) did.

He is, however, a supremly pragmatic man. I expect that if he absouetly had to he would employ a TP though he would keep that person on a short leash. I mean exceptionally short: surveliance, making them fully account for their time, double checking all their reported info and absouetly no leeway for screwups. Heck he'd probably wire an explosive collar to them if he thought he could get away with it. Honestly I really dont' think that playing a TP character working for Garibaldi would be a very fun experience unless there was a lot of deus ex involved to grease the wheels.

Have the PC telepath recommended to Garabaldi by Lyta Alexander. He owes Lyta his life, and he'd probably be willing to give the telepath a shot if Lyta trusts the PC.

But that's exactly it. He wouldn't hurt Lyta because he knows her (and because he owes) her but he also believes TP's as a group are dangerous and that a conflict between TP's and normals is inevitible. Considering what we know about the character, how his mind works, I think that he would delibrately try to avoid getting to know any other TP's as well as he knew Lyta preciesly so that he could make calm, rational decisions about shooting them in the head without his personal affection for the person getting in the way.

Honestly, unless Garabaldi was in extreme need and/or the TP character was willing to accept extreme loyalty assurance measures I just don't see Garabaldi employing a TP as ending well. At least not without lots of deus ex.

Now maybe if the party and the TP was employed by six degrees of middlemen.....

Now maybe if the party and the TP was employed by six degrees of middlemen.....

This is pretty much what I was going to suggest. Have the PC's relationship with the corp be more "unofficial"- since they're tracking black ops projects and could be indulging in some wetworks themselves, it's pretty logical that they wouldn't be actual company employees. The party's main contact with the company is sort of their "Bosley", a middleman who gives them their info. They almost never actually meet Garibaladi himself, he takes the "Charlie" role.

Now, the middleman knows that Garibaldi hates telepaths, but decides to go ahead and recruit one anyhow, without telling the boss. maybe the middleman is sympathetic to the blips, or he's got a lot of Psicorp related jobs to clear and just needs a teep on the team. So he tries to keep the telepath and the boss as seperate as possible. Naturally, the character wouldn't initially know about Gariballdi's feelings, and might blow the whole deal. It would work even better if the player themselves doesn't know enough about the series to see the trouble ahead. If they do, well, just keep Garibaldi in the background longer, drop enough hints so that the player figures it out eventually. Then they'll realize that they'd better not mess up, or else. :]

The other idea, as someone suggested, is to use an alien- almost guaranteed to be a Minbari. Another possibility is to give Garibaldi some sort of prototype device that would shield him from telepathic abilities- it's definately the sort of thing he would have the company research. Or he could just force the teep to take inhibitors whenever they check in- that would at least take care of the worries about being scanned (though not the worries of where the character's ultimate loyalties lie).
