[Babylon5] Whoot!!

Is it just me, or is this just one long fabulous gaming year?

B5 is smashing even if you never play the darn thing. Some people have said that this whole d20 OGL thing would result in much crap little substance. So far, as long as you do a little research into your writers and publishers this fad just keeps getting better and better. I have never had to worry so much about staying within my entertainment/hobby budget. I'm getting hit from all sides and rarely disappointed with significant purchases.

Maybe I'm just lucky about the products that appeal to me, I don't know. Along with my Star Wars d20 books, these are some of the best looking books I've seen in the business. On the fantasy side I've got Midnight and Arcana Unearthed. M&M rounds this off nicely as a do anything book but also not stingy on the aesthetic appeal.

Anyway back on topic...

B5 is slick presentation, backed up with excellent substance. Crunchy and smooth all at the same time. I'm really looking forward to the supplements that come out for this. I'm a GM pretty much exclusively now and thumbing through this book just breeds story arcs. Even if you never play B5 the amount of info they put in here on building a cohesive space campaign is excellent. As a babylon 5 fan I really appreciated the 1st season episode breakdowns (crunch here too!).

My only problem now is that it is increaingly unlikely that I will wait any longer to begin my Babylon 5 DVD collection.

Kudos!!!

I just got my copy of the B5 RPG today and I must say I am fairly impressed. I was a little worried with it being D20, but I do think it works fairly well. I like the way hit points are handled for classes. It gives a much smaller amount of Hit Points and all. Granted I have only flipped through it so far. The Major NPC's seem fairly low level.

More once I have a chance to sit down and read through the book in detail.

I looked through B5, and I thought Mongoose put a lot of love into it... But.

Whoever did the index is going to get a Lot of fun poked at them, It's a B5 game, right? So I think to myself, 'self, let's look up Vorlons and see what they said about them'. Check it out - there is no entry for Vorlons inthe index... under 'V'.

It's under 'T', for 'The Vorlons'.

So are about 30 other items that were indexed under 'The [whatever]'. Hit points are under 'C', as a 'Character Class'.

...So, if I'm holding a gun, how big of an area do I threaten, beause I noticed AoOs...?

Yep. I was amazed, even stunned, by the crap that passed Mongoose's editor(s)' eyes. The whole thing was rife with spelling and grammatical errors that were, and are, completely unacceptable in today's world of spell checkers, Office XP SP-93,867,554, etc. (Thanks, Microsoft.)

They posted the Designer's Notes a few months ago (last page of the first preview PDF) and that alone was worrisome. Dammit, I thought, I'm NOT gonna support this kind of bad publishing practice. If I'm gonna pay $40+ then I want a well-written and PROPERLY EDITED manuscript.

Boy, I showed 'em, didn't I! I went in my FLGS and snatched that baby up and had my money pluncked down in seconds flat! That'll teach 'em!

Bastards.

Hmm. I guess I should apply my motto to other d20 products as well as D&D: wait for the Latter Printing (Second, Third, etc.).

I suggest Mongoose_Matt and Mongoose_Paul put up a corrected index listing.

Now, I'm not up to speed with the nuances and details of the Queen's English (Mongoose is a UK-based company), so I'll let someone well-versed decide if there are grammatical error.
