I love "I'm older than dirt" contests. :D

"I'm so old, MOSES was my first DM! What a munchkin! I TOLD him sticks to snakes was overpowered!" ;)

Jeph: Hats off to you - My friends and I NEVER came up with anything that complex when I was ten. It was mostly "I hit you with my (sword/raygun/blaster)! No you didn't! Yes, I did!", combined with lots of exploring distant lands, and hunting out honeysuckle and blackberries. Good Eatin's when you're ten! :)

Yeah, so I'm 15 years old. Compared to you fogies, I have no right to go around yakking about how idillic things were back when I was a wee whipper-snapper.

You best watch who yer' callin' a fogie there, whipper snapper. :p

:) Thanks for sharing.

you had dirt when you were a kid? heck it was all rocks still when i was growing up. it hadn't been pulverized into dirt yet.
You had rocks when you were a kid? Heck, it was all molecular hydrogen and trace amounts of helium for me. Still the first generation of stars, no supernovas yet to generate the heavier elements.

I just wanted to chime in briefly to say that I've had the great pleasure of meeting Jeph through the various NC Game Days that I've helped organize over the last year or so. He's sharp, enthusiastic and fun to game with. He is utterly fearless in how he portrays his characters. No action is too outrageous, no monster too fearsome to fireball, no caliber of weapon is too large.

I hope this doesn't come off a patronizing, Jeph, but you remind me a lot of how I was at your general age. I can recall those waning days of May when school was almost out and summer stretched, seemingly endlessly, out in front of us and hundreds of hours of roleplaying awaited. Those were the days when it seemed like no big deal for you and a couple of buddies to design your own game systems over the course of a few rambling summer afternoons.

I enjoy my life now, filled up like it is with a wife and child and job and my various hobbies when I can fit them in. But the word nostalgia feels like it was invented for the sole purpose of recalling the days when I was 15 and my professions were "Adventurer" and "Game Designer".

Good times.

you had stars? we had to play by the ambient light left over from the big bang! when those new-fangled stars first showed up, we found out we'd been reading the experience table wrong! darn 3s look like 8s in bad lighting...

You think you had bad lighting? Back when I was DMing for my buddies, we couldn't see a darn thing. I asked one of my friends to get me a light or something and WHOMP. There was this big bang and flash of light. He always was an insufferable showoff.
