Back issues of Polyhedron worth getting

maybe I'm doing something wrong but I seem to only be able to find #100, 104, 105, and 106 as available on Paizo's website.

*sigh* probably missed out and they are out of print or something. I'll try to find a gaming store around here, although I heard the pickin's are a bit slim in Brooklyn but there is a big one in da city.

I want to give Paizo a plug here...I don't work for them or anything, honest. :D But I ordered Omega World as a back issue from them and was impressed with their service. The guy on the phone was courteous and professional, they billed my VISA card, and Omega World arrived within a week...and I live in Canada, to boot (usually stuff from the USA takes longer to arrive here due to customs, etc.).

I would highly recommend ordering direct from Paizo. Just give them a call (check their website, it's got all the info there) and have either your or your mom's credit card ready.
Not to jump too far off subject here, but I am not a big fan of Paizo. First of all, when they took over publishing of dungeon, etc they immediately *killed* one of the very best gaming magazines that I ever received, Star Wars Gamer, and split the content among several crappy sister mags (no offense to those who like them) so you would have to spend 3 times as much cash to get 1/10th the content. The real bite, however, was that I had *just* subscribed a few months before, paid in full, and received just two issues. Never got my refund, they 'lost' the subscription info even though they had sent me the little card asking if I wanted a refund or a transfer of subscription to another mag. They were friendly enough, and returned my correspondance (of course, after a few weeks without reply I emailed every last email address on their website until someone got annoyed and answered me) but no dice on my sub. Oh well.

I have heard many folks say good things about their service, etc, so I just have to chalk my experience up to some kind of transitional snafu.

This might be the best thread to ask a simple one-part question...

What was the issue number to have both Dungeon/Polyhedron in the same magazine?

Also are the older Polyhedron magazines pretty much the same that someone saw attached to Dungeon?

Well I guess that was two questions…

I've actually had a couple of bad experiences with them.

1. Called & ordered several (5 to be exact) back issues of Dragon, was told specifically that they WERE IN STOCK. Received 5 completely different issues that I already owned. No refund.

2. Had just re-upped my RPGA membership right before it went free. Received a "free" Megamat as compensation. No refund.

I know that a lot of this stemmed from Paizo being a newly born company & cash-strapped at the time. Any loss of revenue would have been a major blow for them. However it still left a sour taste in my mouth.

I have this funny personality trait in which I expect to actually get what I pay for. Go figure.

I did the exact same thing... did I complain? nope not one bit... Price to Re-up (right before it went free like you said) $5, price of Battlemat? well over $5, postage on battlemat $5.95 why complain?

Because I already own multiple battlemats & because I didn't order a battlemat.

Do you normally go to the store, buy an & item then when you get home find out that it is a completely different item?

No, of course not.

Most stores have figured out that it's usually a good idea to actually give customers the item they bought rather than arbitrarily deciding to replace it with something else.

As I said I understand why Paizo did it, I just don't agree with it.

Well not that I'm here to defend Paizo, but I can understand them mailing the mat to you the 10 dollars were probably spent and it would have been to hard to untie those commitment.

The back issues, I just cannot fathom and that's why I avoid them like a plague and by my older issues from eBay or a few other stores.

Before this thread gets too hijacked, I'd like to say that V is for Victory is the best article I've read out of dungeon ever and is what made me get a subscription to the mag. Iron Lords of Jupiter was the second best, in my opinion. It has a great old school scifi feel.

True enough. I don't think Paizo is a bunch of crooks, they were just in a tough financial spot as a start-up and were forced to make a hard choice. I understand that. It's just the fact that the same thing happened to me on three seperate purchases hit a nerve a bit.

The funny thing is that I bought them specifically from them because I wanted to support them as a new company & to encourage them to continue to make the extra copies of old issues available for sale.

V for Victory & Omega world are the top two in my book. Both are especially good for mining ideas/mechanics to use.

Hijinks is probably the one that appealed to me the least. Probably because the subject matter didn't in any way interest me.

Very interesting thread. Great to see that so many of you liked these Mini-Games.

For what it's worth, Krieg, the issue with the RPGA battle mat is actually one you have with Wizards of the Coast and the RPGA Network, which is a completely seperate entity from Paizo Publishing. I know it's confusing because Polyhedron subscriptions were once tied to RPGA Membership, but that has not been the case for at least a couple years, now. We had nothing whatsoever to do with the battle mats (although I got one, too, and I've used it more than a few times).
