Death….
The most noticeable thing about death is the smell, particularly the smell of a dead goblin. The average goblin doesn't smell to good as it is, but when they die they stink or so Sergeant Jan Mordrai of the 3rd Backaraian Rangers thought as he went to retrieve his knife. It was firmly imbedded just above the left eye of what was most definitely a dead goblin. A strange squeaky scream came from beyond the cluster of trees that the sergeant was in. It made Jan look up, the plan did not appear to be working. Plans like women should be simple or ample and flexible to deal with problems but nothing flashy. Clever plans like clever women tend to be difficult, and while this indeed was a clever plan it was also becoming increasingly difficult. Placing one of his muscular hands on the green face of the goblin and the second on the handle of the blade he pulled it clear. As the blade pulled clear the goblin carcass released its final insult as blood splattered across Jan's face, the corrosive hissing was a familiarity to an experienced fighter such as Jan and the stinging, as Jan knew, would pass…..
Welcome to the land of Backara
A low magic High fantasy Gothic setting for the D20 world
Best of all its free!!!
Backara is an online development by fans of the d20 system to develop a free setting to be used by all. This setting comes with its own very unique rules making it more like a game to itself. The Backara team publish two monthly Ezines the Backara Herald packed full of rules and excellent articles and the Backara Gazetteer, which is part of the Temples Lore Ezine, by D20Ezine. The Gazetteer unlike the herald is not OGC and rather is packed full of details of the World Backara sits on.
So why are we advertising here and elsewhere the setting is nowhere near finished but we need your help.
If you’re a budding artists or writer we wish to hear from you. The Backara team is a great showplace and while we do not pay over half our contributors are under contract with publishers many due to their work for Backara.
To quickly end the plug any one interested in writing for the Backara team should email
