Backup synchronization

I'm looking for a free or cheap utility (for Win XP) that can synchronize a backup copy of a given directory.

For instance, I keep a copy of My Documents on an external hard drive and I'd like a utility that could check which file I've changed or added to the directory locally and synchronize the copy of the directory on the external HD.

SyncBack is a tool that does what you want. There is a freeware version available on their site or a pay version which supposedly has some additional features.
