There's no way to remove the Stunned condition, so if you fail that save your PC is out of the rest of the combat. Might as well make a quick trip down to the store.

Loss of in-game stuff, whatever. Loss of play time is a big deal.

I even went so far as to tinker with a negative LA template that strips out magic immunity of a golem and replaces it with energy resistances, for reduction in CR.

It appears to me that break enchantment and dispel magic will both end a mind flayer's blast.
