Oh, and I also forgot --- This is the first playthrough I've ever used Mazzy in my party.

Oh my gosh, what was I thinking all those years ago??? Mazzy is AMAZING!

Once you get her the Gesen Bow (unlimited, electrified arrows) and the bracers of archery, she's flat out INSANE.

How in the world would you account for weapon speed factors in a non-computer game? I'm certain those probably got tossed out the window by a lot of GMs.

I never played BG1 or 2 but had a lot of experience with 2e at the table. I might be one of the rare DMs who used weapon speed factor - though maybe I was doing it incorrectly.
Roll Initiative on a d10. Subtract your Dex modifier if applicable and add your weapon.
As a player, I knew my thief had -1 because of his Dex and +2 from using his dagger, so I always added +1 to my roll. I didn't find it confusing at the time.
