Banned from Gencon!

Has anyone seen the game Morton's List? By Dark Carnival Games, you basically roll up a quest and go do it in real life. Sounds like it can be as outrageous and fun as the group wants to let it- only your inhibitions set boundaries.

I haven't played it but am definitely interested in checking it out.

The game was supposed to have a booth at Gencon (I think a coupla years ago), but they got banned because the game was not "appropriate" (I guess because it's too real life?).

Anyone know more? It's my fascination with ICP that has led me to this pass... :)

There was an early-80s made-for-TV movie with Tom Hanks called Mazes and Monsters. This game you mentions strikes me as being a little too much like that movie. :D

But sorry, I have no information for you about the game.

OK, the point of the game is to end boredom. You and your fellow players roll on some charts, and you do whatever comes up. I found some examples of things it could be telling you to do:

1. Bowling
2. Bowling handcuffed to someone.
3. Testing to see if you have psychic powers.
4. Pretending to be a rock star in a convention of geeks
5. Dumpster diving
6. Going to a ICP concert
7. Making fun of fat chicks
8. Creating a new dictionary with such words as "Flizznipity" and "The Shyst".
9. Playing freaze tag in the middle of a shopping mall

etc...

A lot of the players seem immature and childish, and I have a feeling that a lot of the quests end up that way. Remember the wacky stuff you and your friends did in high school 'cause you didn't have anything better to do? It seems like a formalized way of coming up with similar wierd stuff to do.

Here's their Official UNofficial Yahoo group. You can get a feel of what kind of people play the game by reading their posts. Lots of profanity. Lots of "yo, sup Homes" style of talking.

um, based on the short descriptions here, I'm guessing the words actually used to turn down the booth, (ban's a little loaded) were "disruptive" "unmanagable" or possibly even "silly". Games that involve making non participants into props or extras aren't appropriate to a con, unless they are a major part of the con that attendants are going to be aware of.

Kind of reminds me of a cleaner version of the goofy insert in Buttery Wholesomeness called Freebase (Buttery Wholesomeness was for the rpg HOL by Dirt Merchant Games and White Wolf). Anyone else remember that?

I know the guys who created this game. They are a very cool and fresh bunch; I used to belong to their gaming group and we’d play such classics as Alternity and Star Wars d20.

The game is pretty much as you've read, basically act like a teenager and embarrass yourself in public.

Morton’s List is not really affiliated with ICP, but the creators went to High School with them and of course still hang out together.

Check it out, it isn’t for everybody but it can be really fun when you feel like making a fool of yourself.

Ah yes. Ah, yes. What was their alignment system again? It was brilliant, that's about all I remember.

Wait-- you would be somewhere on the continuum between legalistic and crunchy, and somewhere on the continuum between granola and e----?

Oh, it was good.
