Bard PrCs

Hi Dragongirl,

I'll second the Book of Eldritch Might II. It has some interesting stuff for bard lovers. A very thoughtful variant on the bard class and the three PrC already mentionned. I liked the variant bard so much, I decided to make it the default bard class in my campaign world.

Since you mention that your a bit behind in your d20 stuff, you can find information on the BoEM II at Monte Cook's web site : http://www.montecook.com. You can also buy the BoEM II in PDF format for US$ 5 IIRC.

Good luck

I had fought down any desire to pimp Monte's alt. bard, but Guillaume's right. The "spellcasting" mechanic has a much more musical, bardish flavor to it that the default bard, which is really just a jack of all trades dressed up to look like a troubadour.

Eh. They make renamed spells. Nothing to get worked up over, nothing that really adds anything to the bard IMO.

The mechanical difference is insignificant in the "my bard can kick your bard's ass" department. But I like flavor differences that have mechanical effects, so the fact that the Monte bard is actually a musical caster appeals to me. The PH bard always struck me as a rogue-sorceror with some magic songs thrown on to round him off. Blah, IMO.

Van Richten's Arsenal has the dirgist, a bard that specializes in the macabre.

I'd be interested in seeing a comparsion between the Dirgist and the Mourner of Hollowfaust. :) I like bards that can sing to the Dead. ;)

Dragongirl,

In the Twin Crowns campaign setting there is the Diplomat PrC, which is easily enterd by a Bard who wishes to concentrate on Diplomacy, and in our upcoming Streets of Silver city setting there are a few good Bard PrC's, including the Mendicant, imagine how much more charming Fagan (from Oliver Twist)would have been if he had a few Bard levels....

This may be sort of obvious (well, my players didn't think of it :p) , but as arcane casters bards would qualify for most all of the Tome & Blood prestige classes. Some of them like the mindbender or fatespinner might be appropriate, depending on the sort of bard you're going for. If you're looking for a fortune teller type, the Divine Oracle (Defenders of the Faith) is also pretty much open to any spellcaster, though there's probably better fortune-teller type classes out there.
