Bards using divine scrolls

I mean, we don't know HOW a scroll is really created

Well, scroll creation *does* specifiy that you need writing material... so i'd assume that creating a scroll is more than just projecting the spell onto an empty piece of parchment...

Ah rules and the fun we have with them

I know. All I meant was that since we don't know what that "something more" is it's just speculation on our part. While I can't think of a good reason how someone could co-operatively make a scroll without it seeming silly, it doesn't mean that someone else can't.

Also, since the rules do say you can cooperatively create magic items, and it doesn't say that scrolls should be treated differently, to treat them differently would be a house rule.

You guys come up with some really twisted ideas :-)

Thanks for the responses. Now, a further related question, just to confirm really:

A 4th+ Paladin can use a divine scroll of Cure Light Wounds, but what about a 1st level Paladin? I say no, but just checking.

Ok here's what I found:

"It is possible for more than one character to cooperate in the creation of an item, with each participant providing one or more of the prerequisites. In some cases, cooperation may even be necessary, such as if one character knows some of the spells necessary to create an item and another character knows the rest."

Where is this quoted from? It's something we were talking about the other day and I could not find this information. I'd love to take a look at it.

Thanks!

Yes, he can use the scroll, though he needs to make a caster level check.

According to the FAQ, a Pal1 can use a wand of CLW, because he has the spell on his class list. (Whether he can cast the spell yet is irrelevant.) So it follows that he can use spell-completion items of CLW also.

A Pal1 has zero caster level, so his caster level check is an unmodified d20. His DC is one higher than the scroll's caster level, so to activate a base scroll of CLW (caster level 1), he must roll 2 or higher.

Its from the SRD, "Magic Item" section (and not "Magic Item (Creating magic items)" section, under prerequisites
