Bargin bin treasures.

Earlier tonight, I was going through the supermarket when I noticed Ronin (starring Robert DeNiro) on sale for $10 on the bargin DVD shelf. I immediately decided to pick it up because I consider Ronin to be one of the better action movies to come out in the last ten years. It features gritty, realistic gunfights, compelling characters, and some of the best car chases ever put to film. I watched it as soon as I got home from the store.

Another great bargin bin DVD I picked up about a year ago was the 13th Warrior, which is one of my favorite action/adventure flick. I liked that movie so much that my very first 3rd Edition D&D character was a barbarian who was partially influenced by Herger the Joyful; to the extent that he referred to the elf rogue in the party as "Little Brother." :)

So, what are some of your better bargin bin DVD purchases?

The Negotiator comes to mind. As does Ghostbusters. Both were $10. The Negotiator has 2 of my favorite modern actors teaming up and Ghostbusters is a classic. Not bad.

I found Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure for $5. I just love that movie.

"Woah..." :D
Same here. About two years ago I picked up Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure for $10 in the bargin bin at Media Play.

I also got the Highlander Director's Cut DVD (the one with deleted scenes re-inserted into the movie) for about $7. Not a bad purchase at all.

Now you got me thinking. I went nuts at Circuit City about 6 weeks ago and raided the bins there. I picked up Donnie Darko, Young Guns I & II, American History X, Van Wilder, Scorpion King & The Rundown all for $10 or less. Oddly enough I've only watched Van Wilder & The Rundown out of the bunch...

I know Dark City is in the Bargain Racks at BB. How can you resist the only SF movie that Ebert said should get an oscar for best film (Sidenote - My respect for Rodger Ebert went up considerably when I found out that a movie critic would actually suggest that an SF film should get a best picture oscar).

The local Wal-Mart Super Center had Elvira, Mistress of the Dark on dvd for $5.50. I have the video but it was pretty cool getting the dvd too. :)
