These two bookstores offer 20% discounts to teachers. AND THE DISCOUNT WORKS ON D&D STUFF!

I nearly kissed the kid behind the counter when I realized it.

I don't know how many of you are teachers, I know pogre is, but I seemed to remember there was a fair amount.

If this has been brought up before please forgive me but I am very excited!

As long as the books are used for the classroom. The Educator's Discount is only on those items used for the classroom. It is not good on Cafe items, or Music items, nor on Magazines (so you won't get it on Dragon or Dungeon). Everytime someone shows me the Educator's Card I have to ask the question "Are these items for the classroom?" When they say yes I have to take it on faith that they are telling the truth but its obvious that a 1st grade teacher will not be using the lastest John Grisham novel for their class. I really haven't had a problem with Educator's abusing their discount I just wish I could give them a tax exemption as well.

Oh and this past week thru today the Educator's Discount at B&N is 25%. Tomorrow it goes back to 20%.

And the Educator's Discount is free all we have to see to give the card is proof that they're a teacher this current semester.

Wow, they never asked me. I almost feel guilty.

That's strange. Why not magazines? Are Time and Newsweek not (potentially) educational?

Though I agree with you on that it depends on the discounting policy of the publishers on their items to the book companies. Also there are several good DVD's from the Music department that could serve as educational material that I couldn't give them a discount on but since they used the school account I was able to give them a tax exemption, they had brought two copies of HBO's series From the Earth to the Moon at $90 or $100 apiece (I forgot how much).

Text books also fall under a different catergory for discounts given to book companies. That's why College Barnes & Noble Bookstores are different from the regular Barnes & Noble retail stores. I don't receive my employee discount in the College stores. In fact the only interactions between the two that I've seen so far are that: 1. we can transfer to them (several of my co-workers did that when College B&N got the LSU Union Store a couple of years ago); 2. in order to use their Paper GC we have to use a dummy number because their GC begin with the letter 'C' and our registers don't recognize that as part of a valid GC. Lastly we got some of the recent SI's with the National Champion LSU cover from them because it appears that our magazine department in the front office messed up and we didn't get 'our' copies in time.

I hope that helps.

Don't, that just means that someone did not train their cashiers propertly so it's that store's mistake. Read the back of your Educator's Card for the restrictions on the discounting policy and then ask the Head Cashier or the Manager on Duty if you have any further questions. Hopefully they will know the answer.

I'm glad that we offer teachers a discount because they are woefully underpaid (especially here in Louisiana) and underappreciated. :( Teachers need all the help we can give them.

As a future (just waiting for certification) teacher, all I can say is "amen"

A totally non-D&D related suggestion to my fellow teachers--

If you travel a lot, especially abroad, get teh International Teachers Identity Card. It allows you many of the same discounts that students get for museums, flights, etc.

All you need for it is a letter from your school.
