D&D 5E Basing Casting Stat on archetype & starting Half-Caster progression at 3rd level

So, I was thinking up a homebrew Inquisitor (still very much WIP), and I thought it would be cool to base your casting stat on the archetype you choose, namely Int for the Investigator (sneaky spy type guy), Cha for the Zealot (fiery orator that uses the masses to support his actions) and Wis for the Crusader (the badassest of the three, the type that just kicks in the door and then kicks in your teeth by himself).
Thing is, I wanted the class to be a half caster, so, I would either have a level where they don't have a casting stat (2nd), or I could make them Quarter-Casters (which doesn't really appeal to me as that is usually reserved for the one caster archetype among non caster ones).
Or, I could make them gain the Spellcasting trait at 3rd level and threat as if they were Half-Casters from that point (they start with 3 lvl 1 slots, gain slots on same level as Paladin and Ranger, etc).
Would this last option make the class lack power in its second level to then gain too much on its third? Any alernatives?
Also, what do you think about the multiple casting stats?

Some classes choose at 3rd and some at first. Choosing at 2nd wouldn't be a problem. Just don't give anymore offensive oomph at 2nd level, as spells do that already (assuming they get some smite spells or something to transfer spells to damage easily).
