Bastion Open Call

Hello all,
Just wanted to pass the word that Bastion Press has put forth an open call for forest-type monsters for an upcoming book. Here's the blurb from their website. Please don't enter as it lessens my chances of being selected. :D

In June, Bastion Press is releasing Into the Green: A Guidebook to Forests, Jungles, Woods, and Plains. This book is an ecology and survival guide for the wilderness, designed to aid both GMs and players alike._

Currently we are looking for the best, the most unique, and the most frightening new monsters for these environments. Each submission should be worthy of its own Hollywood movie. Be creative, be daring, be original, and most of all unleash your imagination upon the d20 universe.

Submissions should be turned in no later than February 15th, 2003._ Please use the template provided when submitting your monster._ Return all submissions to submissions@bastionpress.com._ Winning authors will be paid 3-5 cents per word accepted. We are not looking for standalone color artwork right now, but we would consider artist/author dual submissions (but please understand we might not accept the artwork even if we do accept the monster).

Designers should understand that this is more than ‘just’ a monster manual, and that your submissions will be reworked to match the format of the rest of the book. Our goal is to craft a unique environmental book that includes cool monsters, but we’ll be presenting the material in a different manner (which is not detailed on the template below). If you have any other questions, please contact Jim Butler.

This section should discuss Monster’s tactics in battle, then give explanation of special attacks, and special qualities. These are listed on page 8-10 of the MM. Don’t be afraid, however, to invent your own, if applicable.

Variant

This is an optional section that might discuss an offshoot or anomalous versions of this Monster.

Oh well.. the next popular topic to be covered. We haven't announce our own product yet on a similar topic.

Enticing. I seem to recall several books along these same lines. Hey, it just means we consumers have more choices when it comes to the kinds of products on the shelves at our FLGS. The more the merrier, I say!

As a matter of fact :p I also have plans for a "Vistas of the Arcane Vol 2" that is all forest oriented, all kinds of monster cards & places in full color, no writing though so I won't be stepping on any toes with that! Mine will be out in March there 'bouts.

So this will be the Summer of the Forest products...

Sounds cool though!

Heck, if you time your request for submissions right you could end up golden. I understand not wanting to get Bastion's castoffs, but while everyone's creative juices (or rivers, mayhaps) are heading in the leafy direction...
