Thanks for the kind words about the article. I would like to defend and concede a few points.
Regarding Jarl ... I purposely worded it the way I did for a couple of reasons. #1: To see how many people would actually remember the reference of Jarl; #2: The quality of old-time TSR editing actually presents the word "Jarl" as a name instead of a title in several instances, and it was even presented in the name fashion in ads and marketing material in later years; and #3: I wanted to see how many people would actually break out their old copies to prove me wrong.
As for Gen Con, Milw, and 1985 ... I'll admidt to wording that sentence wrong initially. I had meant 1985. I've had Jim correct it.
I'm glad the column had the effect it did, since I've been receiving emails about some of the things I've pointed out. In retrospect I should have included a reference for how many of the 10 points people knew ...
1-2: Complete gaming newb
3-4: Been around since 3E began
5-6: Played 2E
7-8: Played 1E
9-10: Knows Skip's real name is before he got the nickname.
