Batman dead in 2008?

Dead....I didn't even know he was sick!

Seriously though, I'm not surprised it got shelved by the higher ups, it was a bad idea from the get-go.

It's a great idea, all except the "Jason Todd becomes Batman" bit.

Particularly since, whatever Final Crisis may be, it's coming to us at the hands of Grant Morrison, a New God among comic writers.

... unless he's writing the main Batman comic. He hasn't hit a home run in that series since he took over it.

If there's anything that's rough about being a comic fan today, it's the cult of personality mentality. Morrison's a god, Bendis is a god, Waid is a god, Millar is a god, Moore is a god, yadda yadda. Who popularized that line?

It's like picking a football team and thinking you're obliged to stick with it rain or shine. Everyone's style has its share of weaknesses. I loved Doom Patrol back when Morrison wrote it in the early nineties, so I've been appreciating his work longer than most. But that's really his element: surreal storylines populated by a handful of characters with ruthless personalities. Want to do a final crisis? Bring Wolfman back, or try Waid.

The anonymous artiste who spray-painted "Clapton is god" on a London tube tunnel, which was then photographed, as I recall, for a Rolling Stone story.

It wasn't the Beatles when they proclaimed they were more popular than Jesus?

You guys have quietly hit on one thing that drives me nuts about comics...it is SO hard to break into considering the rebirths, multi-verses, and different people in the same role.

I've read a few comics over the years, but right now the only one I really follow is Ultimate X-men, mainly because it is its own world with no massive backstory to try and catch up on.

I just read most of the Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps series and I liked it but was half confused most of the time. Parallax? Ion (I read some of the Kyle Rayner Ion story, but I still don't get it)? And the worst were the Anti-monitor and Superman Prime. Even the wikipedia pages were tough to follow with all of the references to Earth 1, Earth-Prime, Ultimate Crisis, etc.

I've loved some of the small Batman comics. The Long Halloween, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman - Year One. They keep you interested without flooding you with information that you've never heard of.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just someone who has been trying recently to get into comics, but finds it too complex for the limited time I have to give.
