Battle Grid

Does anyone know where I can download a good battle grid sheet? I want to start using the minatures but I need a correctly sized battle grid so I can have it enlarged and laminated. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Don't you have a DMG? It comes with a battle grid.

Or, you can buy a D&D Miniatures Starter.

I do have the DMG but I am not happy with the battle grids that come with the book. I want a standard size page sheet without any hallways or walls marked. I want to have it enlarged to poster size and laminate it. Maybe I need to go back and re-evaluate the grids with the DMG.

Other suggestions would be helpful also. Color is a plus

If its correctly sized and then you enlarge it, it won't be correctly sized anymore.

If you are trying to do this on the cheap. The cheapest way is to get posterboard and draw your own lines and then get a piece of clear vinyl (can be purchased by the yard at any place that sells fabric e.g. Walmart) and some wet erase markers.

Well, remember that if you enlarge the grid, it won't be 1 inch squares anymore. So you would need smaller squares to start. How small would depend on how much you want to enlarge the grid.

I would just buy a battlemat, or even just draw a one inch grid on posterboard.

The battle grid in the DMG is double sided, and the second size sounds like it might be what you are looking for. I'd recomend removing it from the book and examining both sides before looking elsewhere.

Failing that, you could look in you FLGS for back issues of Dragon, which has occasionally included battlegrids of a variety of designs, suitable for different locales (city, underhround, an arena and others.)

If you want a better solution and you don't mind parting with substantially more cash, I've seen and covetted a lot of commercial products. There is a tile based offering out there that's laminated and intended to be used with dry erase markers, and also some 3d sculpted offerings.

By the way, if you happen to have small children, take advantage of a synergy bonus: my daughter's lego-like big blocks happen to be at the same scale as the standard battle maps. We usually use the standard blank side of the battle map in the DMG, and lay down blocks for the various walls. Works better than it sounds...

Maybe I need to restate my intent. I want to reproduce the single sheet onto a poster size sheet. I know enlarging the grid will make the squares to large. I was just curious if there was anywhere on the internet that I could D/L a decent example?

I do have small children, I like the lego idea. thanks for the suggestion. Do you have a picture handy of your lego system in use?

BRILLIANT! I'm going out to buy a box of legos before my next dungeon crawl! Bet that'll be cheaper than Dwarven Forge stuff...

I use a dry large erase board that I scored with an exacto knife at 1" intervals. It works great b'c its nice and sturdy, doesn't roll up on me like some of the battle mats do, I can use dry erase markers on it, and the very act of wiping it off deposits little bits of "dry erase marker dust" in the score lines, so my grid is clearly visible.

On the down side, it *doesn't* roll up for easy transport...but I still like it better than the wet-erase battle mats. The ease of clean up, making corrections, or just moving on to the next room/level makes it worth it to me.

You need to watch out, legos can sometimes be quite pricey. They are cheaper than dwarven forge products.

I will look at the DMG battle grid again to night when I get home from work. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. They have been helpful.

If anyone else has a suggestion, please post it. This thread could be very helpful to everyone.
