Battletech with D20

Regarding the origional topic, I will also suggest Armageddon 2089. It definately has the "mechs are walking tanks" vibe rather than the "mechs are walking fighter planes with laser swords" style. The mechanics for building and fighting your war machine are sufficiently nitty-gritty for the wargamer crowd and flavor-wise it really plays up to the military-geek vibe with little technology details drawn from the real world. It also includes rules for the players to create and manage their own mercenary company with details for buying and mantainng all their military expenditures.

Plus, whats not to love about a game with detailed rules for launching an attack of 0.2 Kiloton tac-nukes? :]
