Who would like to see an old school adventure made for 5e that was more of an 80's hard core fantasy like beastmaster, conan, krull rather then the fluffy stuff like lord of the rings, merlin etc.. ?

sign me up twice!

they've really painted over a lot of the grit of high-fantasy with 5e so far.

I realize it's not the "direct support" you're looking for, but it should be fairly easy to convert storylines (if not necessarily direct game mechanics) from Mongoose's Conan d20 material or the Lankhmar stuff from Runequest for that good old Sword and Sorcery feel. A lot of Necromancer Games' OGL stuff has a great S&S vibe to it, too.

Unless we get some serious new direction, I doubt this is something we're gonna see from Wizards of the Coast. Based on what we've seen before, they seem kind of ashamed of D&D's history in old school pulp, if not outright contemptuous.

Hopefully licensing will allow third party publishers to scratch that particular itch.

EDIT: Okay, that was a little off. 5e's reaction to Conan/Kull style sword & sorcery is not necessarily hostile, more like ambivalent. The writers appear to like the idea of pulp, but the art directors seem actively hostile to anything that smacks of masculine power fantasy.

So I could see Wizards writing adventure modules that read like Howard, but they'll be illustrated like Lackey.

The hardest part to me seems dialing back the magic, or at least the magic using classes. Pulp S&S typically doesn't differentiate sorcerers, witches, wizards, or, priests. A priest who casts spells is just a sorcerer who serves a god. Or there is a simple differentiation between black magic and white magic, but generally a practitioner makes his or her own choices about whether to dabble on both sides or stick to one.

I am assuming that you are referring to the movies and not the books. If I remember correctly, The Hobbit was published in 1937, the Lord of the Rings was published in 1955 and Arthurian legends containing references to Merlin date back to the 6th century. That's pretty 'old school'.

There was a Conan rpg during the D20 craze of 3rd edition. It shouldn't be too hard to find some of their adventures and convert them to 5th ed.

An adventure based on Krull? Sign me up now! Any of those classics would be amazing. I wish there was a bigger audience for it.
