Becoming a fire-based being

So I take there is no elemental-based wizard or cleric class for 3.5?

The wu jen (Complete Arcane) and shugenja (Complete Divine) are element-based oriental-themed casters, who both have fire specializations. The wu jen gets a +2 caster level boost with spells of his chosen element and a +2 on saves against same at 6th level, while the shugenja can sense the presence of different elements in his surroundings and chooses an order of extra elemental spells (like a cleric's domain) to add to his list in exchange for being unable to cast spells associated with an opposed element.

In general, wu jen and shugenjas are considered weaker and less versatile than the wizard and cleric, but if you want to make an element-focused caster, they do a great job.

No standard class. But there are several prestige classes.

Elemental Savant (for both arcane and divine casters/Complete Arcane)
Bonded Summoner (for arcane casters/Miniatures Handbook)

You can become or take the form of a chosen elemental at the end of those prestige classes.

Also, there is a fire-themed class called Pyrokineticist in Expanded Psionics Handbook. Not so great though, IMHO.

I wrote about Dragonkin because your description was like some kind of large-sized dragon-like humanoid or fiend, rather than to be an elemental.

By the way, I can think of another option. There is Half-Elemental template in Manual of the Planes.
Edit: MoP is a 3.0e book but you can download official update file here.

The description is my version of an ifrit. What made you think my description looked like a Dragonkin?

Though its posture is hunched, he stands at least twelve feet tall...... Beneath his eyes, his face juts forward, making his cheekbones angle to the sides. His jaws are filled with sharp hooked teeth. ..... His hands are wide and monstrous looking, each of his fingers ending in a massive, sharp, iron-grey claw. His tapering tail measures eight feet in length and is dragonlike in appearance. His legs resemble the hind legs of a wolf, with large feet that have three clawed toes on them.

From those descriptions I imagined some kind of large-sized dragon-man. D&D Efreets don't have tail. And their faces are more or less human-like (or at least, monstrous-human-like). And their legs are like those of human.

The following is a feature found on Neanderthals. Beneath his eyes, his face juts forward, making his cheekbones angle to the sides.

I want some different when it came to the look of the ifrit.

choose paraelemental magma for your elemental of choice with archon or savant. i had one player be a storm paraelemental in one of my campaigns.

If I was go choose paraelemental magma as my choice my character would look like the description below.

A humanoid male standing fifteen feet tall despite his body being hunched over, walks in moving with grace and ease. Her muscular body is cover in large, thick, tough, scales that resemble fractured obsidian and glowing magma, forming a mottled pattern of reds, oranges, blacks, and grays over its entire body. The scales are bathed in flame. Beneath his scaly skin is glowing lava. Burnt orange monstrous leathery wings flare from his back. On the top of both wings is a two inches long curved claw. The wings crest a full foot-and-half higher than the shoulders and have a wingspan of forty-five. The wings can wrap around his body. Her monstrous looking head is a nauseating sight to behold, hangs over his large, barrel-shaped chest. His skull slopes low over his brain. The back of his skull has a bulge. His segmented obsidian horns start at the front of his hairline and move over his head, to the back of his skull where they extend outward, curl, and come to a point. The ears are long and webbed, with sharp spikes connected by thick membranous skin. On each side of his head are four eyes that glow with a lurid flame. Flames trail from his nostrils. His long powerful jaws have seventy-two sharp teeth and four canine fangs. The arms are thick, muscular, and oversized for the rest of the body. On each shoulder is a huge eye that glows with white flame. An extremely sharp backwards curving barb protrudes from each elbow. His hands are monstrous in appearance and twice the normal size. In the center of both palms is a large eye that glows with white flame. A massive, sharp, jagged obsidian, claw comes out of each hand’s two fingers and thumb. His powerful tapering tail measures ten feet in length. Both his feet have three toes that each end in a sharp, obsidian two inches long claw

FTFY. (i'm assuming that you desired unambiguous and single gendered? so i went with the first mentioned gender....)

so, is that good... or not quite what you wanted?

and to be honest... if something like that walked into a room i was in, i don't think my first response would be to count the teeth and appreciate the finer details of anatomy. ^^ just saying.
