Behold, Legend of Zelda, TWILIGHT PRINCESS!

No Revolution until the Next E3...Nintendo's own words.

... okay, this will actually get me into the Zelda series. I've only played Zelda 1 & 2 before now, and never owned any of them.

With the Revolution coming out, and it's downloads of classic NES/SNES/N64 games, I think I might be able to get into this series.

Could you give us a quote on that? Because that doesn't match the words I've read.

From over on IGN:
"A lot of people really asked for a long time who was going to be launching when. There is a reshuffling of the deck every time a new console is launched, so in some ways it doesn't really matter who's first, second or third," Kaplan said. "I think content is more important. But nobody's launched yet. We've just said 2006 and that's all we've said.

I pity you.
Yes, people keep saying that. ;)

And yes, folks, I know the Revolution isn't due until Q1 2006. But, this new Zelda for GC + the back-catalog on the Revolution would give me a chance to get into the series.

Well you could do that with a Gamecube and the Gameboy Player, would be a bit harder/more expensive since you missed out on the bonus discs, but you currently can play every Zelda with this combination.

there are two zeldas that didnt come out on Nintendo Systems (which were licensed out by nintendo).

Actually, there are three: Legend of Zelda: Wand of Gamelon. Link: Faces of Evil. and Zelda's Adventure.

All three are for the Philips CD-i system, which came out around the early-mid 1990's. The first two games are universally acknowledged as being beyond horrible. While the processing power of the CD's gives them full animation and voices for cut-scenes, the animation is beyond cartoony, and the dialogue would make anyone over seven years old cringe at how awful it is. Likewise, the gameplay is slow, imprecise, and extremely awkward, making the games maddeningly difficult.

For what it's worth though, I haven't played Zelda's Adventure, and from what I hear on the internet (and judging by the higher price it commands on eBay) that one is actually somewhat decent.
